WHO INVENTED THE CALENDAR?

  • The ancient Egyptians created it
  • Counted number of days between appearance of a star
  • The stars name is Sirius
  • This way they found out there are 365 days in a year

DIFFICULTIES WITH THE CALENDAR

  • They now had to divide the year into smaller parts
  • Early people used moon cycles to divide the years
  • The Egyptians had 12 months each with 30 days
  • They also had 5 days added on

THE ROMANS USE THE CALENDAR

  • They added one day to the year every for years
  • We know this as a leap year
  • By the 1500s spring came ten days to early
  • Pope Gregory XIII fixed this and created the calendar we use today
