SUMMARY

  • Bilbo awakes alone on the battlefield, and after removing his ring he is taken by a man
  • This man was sent by Gandalf, and he carries Bilbo to see Thorin, was was mortally wounded
  • Thorin, on his death bed, apologizes to Bilbo and admits that he would be a better man without greed
  • Thorin dies, who is buried with the Arkenstone, and Gandalf reveals that Fili and Kili died aswell
  • All the other dwarves survived, and Gandalf tells of how they won the battle

SUMMARY

  • As the goblin forces were forming, the eagles and Beorn attacked
  • They fought through and destroyed the goblin and wargs ranks
  • With the help of the Eagles and Beorn, the men, elves, and dwarves rallied and fought back
  • Dain is crowned king, and he grants Bard one fourteenth of their treasure
  • With this, Bard rebuilds Laketown and Dale

SUMMARY

  • Bilbo is given two chests of treasure by Dain, and he accompanies Gandalf on his travel
  • They travel to Beorn's home, where they spend the winter with him
  • Then Bilbo and Gandalf continue on to Rivendell.
