THE INDUS VALLEYπŸ‘³

The Indus Valley civilization was the first superior urban culture in South Asia. Some archaeologists refer to it as "Mature Harappan", because it took place during the mature period of 2600-1900 BCE.
The Indus Valley is mainly known because of its large, well-planned cities. It was located in the western region of the Indian Subcontinent.

LANGUAGE πŸ“œπŸ’¬

The language for the Indus Valley civilization is in the form of some two thousand inscribed seals in legible condition. The average number of symbols on the seals is five, and the longest is twenty-six. There are several theories about the language that the Indus script represents, for instance:
1. The language isn't related to anything else.
2. It's an Indo-Aryan/ Indo-European language.
3. It belongs to the Munda family of languages.
4. The language is Dravidian.

RELIGION πŸ™πŸ‘³

Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism were the main religions for the people of the Indus Valley civilization. They worshipped animals, and their gods, Shiva and Rudra. Somethings in the worshipped a Mother Goddess which symbolized fertility.

For entertainment they made toy carts and toy animals. They also played a harp-like instrument which is depicted on an Indus seal. They also did crafts, such as shell working, making ceramics, and bead making. They also made various toys and games.

The people of the Indus Valley civilization grew lentils, chickpeas, peas, black gram, and green gram, but mainly wheat and barely. The wheat and barley would be made into bread, and sometimes, porridge when made with water. They fed local wild rice to their animals, as well. They also used copper and bronze plates to eat off of.

Women wore gold, and other things such as precious stones and jewels. The women also wore lipstick. Both men and women dressed in either robes or draped cloths, similar to how they dress now in modern day India. They are also believed to have worn bright colored clothes, and all of there clothes were made from cotton. Cotton is native to India and has been growing there since as early as 3000 BC.

Transportation 🚣
The people of the Indus Valley civilization traveled around on elephants, oxens, and camels. The animals carried them around on wooden carts, but that wasn't the only way the got around. They also traveled by water with ships the built that moved about the Arabian Sea.

CITIES πŸŒ†

The Indus Valley civilization had two main cities, Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa. Both cities ended with apparent destruction in 1500 BCE. The cities were built off of fire-baked bricks. The cities not only had brick lined streets but also a brick lined sewer system, considering that they were pretty advanced cities.
