Industrial workers faced horrible working conditions. They would work 6 days a week, 12-16 hours a day with a 30 minute lunch break. There was no minimum wage. For example, in the cotton mills conditions were terrible. The temperatures reached 90 degrees. They were dirty and dangerous. Coal mines as well had horrible working conditions. Men had to dig coal out. Women and children hauled coal carts. Explosions and gas fumes were worries. Women were paid less than half of what men were.

Factory Workers during the Industrial Revolution wanted to use their new machines constantly, so they forced their employees to work in shifts. They hired a lot of women and children because they could be payed less than men. Factory owners were only concerned for themselves and their profit, and they didn't care about the working conditions of their employees.

I definitely agree with the position of the factory workers. The factory workers thought that the government should be in charge of the redistribution of wealth, and they thought the government should be in control of their work conditions. As well, that with regulations on work conditions, work would be more efficient and humane.

I agree with Robert Owens, who thought socialism was the way to go. Socialism is where the government controls the factories, the economy, and the infrastructure. He thought that if everybody was equal in their earnings, it would erase class struggle.

There are many ways in which the industrial revolution, and the conditions of the workforce of this era, have affected today's industries. We spoke earlier about the horrible conditions of workers, and the greed and apathy of factory owners. Industries now are impacted by the laws that have been made to prevent those conditions from happening again.
