Intro

  • The Ink Spots were an American group in the 1930s and 1940s. (The original group)
  • The music genre was the blues.

The Beginning

  • The Ink Spots Started in the early 1930s in Indianapolis.
  • The founding members were Orville Jones, Ivory Watson, Jerry Daniels, and Charlie Fuqua.
  • Orville played the cello and sang base.
  • Ivory played the tenor guitar and sang tenor.
  • Jerry sang tenor and played guitar.
  • Charlie sang baritone and played guitar too.

The ink spots become big

  • Jerry Daniels leaves.
  • Bill Kenny Joins.
  • In 1939 The Ink Spots started to become well known music artists.
  • Their first hit Single was "If I Didn't Care" in 1939, it became second the biggest single at the time.
  • The Ink Spot had many other hit pop singles that year like"You Bring Me Down", "Address Unknown"," My Prayer" and "Bless You".

More Success

  • In the early 1940s, the Ink Spots became even more successful.
  • Through 1940 and 1944 they had many hit singles.
  • They had 10 songs in the top 10 and multiple songs in the top 50

The Downfall

  • At the end of 1944 things became bad.
  • Charlie Fuqua was drafted to the army and was replaced by Bernie Mackey.
  • Orville Jones died in October in New York.
  • Bill Kenny and Ivory Watson were not getting along.
  • This made the Ink Spots never the same.

The End

  • Everybody from the group split up and made their own group.
  • This ended the original Ink Spots.
