Network Control Protocol

  • December 1970
  • This completed the ARPANET project
  • It allowed users and sites to make apps
  • The implementing period took another 2 years

The iccc

  • Robert Kahn organized a press confernce
  • This conference was the unveiling of the NCP
  • Held in October 1972 
  • It also introduced hot applications and emails

Transmission Control Program

  • A Program by Vint Cerf and Robert Kahn, 1974
  • A detailed design that expanded the network
  • This project allowed more users and computers
  • Access to the network

Theorynet

  • A emailing system that supported 100 users
  • Created by Larry Landweber in 1977
  •  A professor at University of Wisconsin
  • It was only a local network

Protocol Established

  •  DCA and ARPA set the standard in 1982
  • Transmission Control and Internet Protocol 
  • Become the new standard
  • This provides a definition for the "internet'

1st Domain Assigned

  • On March 15, 1985 Symbolics.com
  • Was the first site to be a registered domain
  • This system of Domain naming is still used

The Explosion

  • In 1990, competition booms
  • ARPANET goes  off of the grid
  • The World comes online, the first commercial internet provider
  • 11 additional countries connect to NSFNET

Mainstream Item

  • By November 1999 the internet was common
  • This means that most families had access to the web 
  • This fact set the stage for the internet to change our lives

Dial up

  • The means of general connection to the internet
  • Up until 2004 there it had no competition; Broadband
  • By the end of 2004 both connects had 130 million users 
  • This was the start of the search to get things ultra fast
  • This epidemic has now crept into all aspects of America culture

Let's go Social

  • Young people wanted to communicate through the internet
  • Thus in 2006 MySpace was the most popular way to do so 
  • Twitter was launched in this year 
  • Facebook expanded membership to 13 year olds
  • Google becomes the superior Internet Giant

Facebook's reign

  • In 2010 Facebook became the leader in social media
  • It had 200 million users
  • Twice the daily traffic MySpace ever did
  • 25% of the global population used the internet

  • In 2010 Apple released its first iPad
  • President Obama connected with the country through social media 
  • Internet Privacy became a hot topic in 2011
  • YouTube hit more than 1 trillion views a year
  • Astronouts from the International Spacestation tweet daily in 2013/2014
