Hitler's Motives

  • When confronted by the leaders of England and France, Hitler said it was a defensive action.
  • The truth was that it would provide "living space for the racially superior Germans".
  • Hitler's plan was, after Germany successfully invades and controls Poland, the Germans would colonize Poland and the native Slavic people would be enslaved.

THe RESPONSE of European Leaders.

  • The leaders of France and Great Britain had warned Hitler not to invade Poland.
  • Since Hitler ignored the warning, on September 3, 1939 France and Great Britain declared war on Germany.

  • One of the worst consequences were the deportation and killing of millions of Jews.
