THE JUSTINIAN EMPIRE

Byzantine Empire
The Byzantine Empire was created after the division of the Roman Empire into Western and Eastern parts and Byzantine was the eastern part of the empire. Before it's existence, the borders of the Byzantium were coincided with the eastern Roman Empire In the sixth century, it was extended to the Atlantic by the Emperor Justinian I, capturing the south part of the Spain along with northern African lands. In the middle of the Byzantine era, the empire was successful in winning a number of battles fought by the Arabs and the Bulgarians. In 1071, they also suffered a serve territorial loss. The Norman conquerors attacks caused a serious threat to the empire. In the 1090s, the Seljuks Turks posed a the serious to the Byzantine empire. In the 1354, the ottomans, crossed over to Europe and captured the Gallipoli peninsula. By the end of the century, many Byzantine cities had succumbed and in 1390 the last Byzantine stronghold in Asia. Minor was captured by the ottoman sultan Bayezid I. The defeat of the Turks by the Mongols in 1402, made the Byzantine empire to survive for 50 years.

Rule of JustiniaN and body of civil

Justinian became emperor for the Byzantine Empire in 527 AD. As an emperor, Justinian had chose the people with ability and not based on fortune. Justinian He had created laws that had changed the society in general. He had allowed women to own land. One of his wishes were to reunite the eastern and western parts of the empire to make Rome like it was once before. He was the leader of the army and navy, he had developed tactics that had strengthened the ability of defense and attack.

He had gotten land and owned them. After his death, the land was taken by someone new. He had created a better city life by adding things like roads, bridges, churches and other kinds of construction. The most famous church had been Hagia Sophia. It was beautifully decorated with arts and took many workers to create-about 12,000.

He had created a whole new legal system. It was much simpler and it has basics used today. He had chosen 10 men to help him, headed by Tribonian. His system had a combination of Greek and Roman legal traditions-which only took 6 years to create. He had created the basis of civil law today for western civilization. There were more equal rights for people than just based on wealth or status.
