• He is both smart and extremely brave

• Mark has to save Trina way to many times.
• She always seems to find a way into trouble.

The Sun

• The sun plays a huge part in this book.
• It resembles destruction because of the sun flares.
• The sun flares wipe out most life on earth

The Magic weapon -Transvices

• Near the middle of the book Mark finds a Transvice
• It is the most powerful hand held weapon in the world
• He uses it to save everyone

Orange

• Throughout the book Dashner describes the world as being in an orange haze
• It is like this because of the sun flares.
• This repersents unbalance on earth

Red

• Mark and his friends have to kill a lot of people.
• Blood is one thing that gets to mark very often
• He has a hard time killing in the beginning

Two

• Mark and his best friend Sarge are completely different.
• They contrast one another
• Sarge keeps Mark safe throughout the whole book

One

• It is ultimately Mark who makes the final lasting decisions.
• He is the one who saves the world (theoretically) 

The Quest

• Mark and his companions try and find the men who killed their whole village
• They end up finding them, but this leads to more pain, and sorrow

The Battle Between Good and Evil

• Near the end of the book Mark gets the flare.
• He struggles to stay sane, but he makes some evil decisions because of it.
