PRESENTATION OUTLINE
How were they formed?
They were formed in pulaski, tennessee by a group of confederate veterans who were formed trying to give the democrats more power and just flat out make the lives of former slaves hard. The was during the post-civil war and reconstruction era.
The picture in the back was a meeting for the Klan a long time ago.
Why were they named the ku klux klan?
The ku klux part of the klan name derived from the greek word kyklos meaning circle. Many people think that they chose the way it was spelled to add alliteration.
Did they have uniforms?
Yes, they did. their uniforms started as a way to keep their identities hidden and also an affective way to scare african americans. They would say they were ghosts of fallen confederate soldigers who have came to haunt them and such stuff like that. Eventually they came to be a more serious and ceremonial garment.
What would they do to people?
The ku klux klan had many ways of scaring or threatening people such as lynching starting houses on fire or torturing them. Their biggest reason of doing this was to keep people from voting or to keep former slaves uneducated. many people still voted with about 500,000 southern african-americans voting republican.
Is the Klan still active today?
The ku klux klan is very much so alive today. They have just stopped the violence and became have more of a conservative protester. they mostly have very under the radar protests and stay out of the news for the most part. they so have politicians that will run for spots but never ever win.
My reaction.
I thought it was very crazy to hear that they called themselves ghosts and people believed them, i think that they just went along with it because they didn't want to anger the people. It was also scary to learn that they are still a group in this day and age and that they even have politicians. That made me wonder what it would be like if a member of the klan became the president.
