Leopold and Loeb met at a prep school in Chicago. Leopold comes from a Jewish German backroad. Loeb was born in Chicago and is also Jewish.
They kidnapped and murdered Robert Franks solely for the thrill of the experience. They were obsessed with committing the perfect crime.
On the evening of November 10,1923 Leopold and Loeb were driving home when they both decided that the perfect crime would be to kidnap and murder a child.
They were circling around trying to find the perfect person to kill when Loeb saw his cousin walking down the street. They kidnapped him and drove to a remote location where they murdered him and then demanded ransom from his father.
Clarence Darrow represented both Leopold and Loeb. Darrow held a twelve hour plea which is now know as one of greatest pleas in history. Even after the twelve hour plea they were both found guilty.
