Saguaros start growing during the summer rain. This is also when adult cacti drop red fruit. Many animals feast on the nectar and seeds of the pulp, maybe a seed will get stuck on an animal and start a new cactus. A young Saguaro might burn if it does not sprout in a shady place.

A fifty year old saguaro is only about ten feet! In the Spring amazing flowers bloom only for one full day. On that day
insects, birds, and bats come and drink nectar and pollinate the cactus. When the nectar is gone most animals leave others make homes by digging in the cactus.

A sixty year old saguaro is almost eighteen feet. The cactus now has branches that white-winged doves can make nests on. The doves might have to fight with the Red-tailed hawks and horned owls.

At seventy five year old saguaro is almost fifty feet. Many animals live on the plant like insects that eat the saguaro also spiders and lizards that eat the insects. Ring-tailed cats perch at the top to avoid coyotes.

A saguaro usually lives for a hundred fifty years providing for the animals that in habit it. The wind causes it to topple because of disease or old age. The saguaro still provides after death and maybe behind it is a saguaro sprouting.
