  • Born on Nevis in the West Indies
  • Mom was French
  • Dad was Scottish

Who he was

  • As a teen, he was put in charge of a trading charter
  • he published a letter to his dad about a hurricane that he was in, in a newspaper
  • People funded his education in America

What he did in the Revolution

  • Revolutionary War against Britain, for American independence
  • Joined revolution at age 18
  • Promoted to lieutenant colonel
  • Became one of Washington’s aide-de-camps or personal assistants in 1777
  • Was Washington’s right hand man

What he did in the Revolution

  • Resigned as aide-de-camp in 1779
  • Battle of Yorktown on October 14, 1781
  • Hamilton led army into battle, British surrendered
  • War ended in 1783, America won independence

What he did in the New Government

  • Hamilton was chosen for the Constitutional Convention by New York
  • Signed Constitution
  • Wrote 51 of 85 Federalist papers to get people to approve the Constitution
