  • Born April 21, 1816
  • Her mother died in 1821
  • From Thornton, Yorkshire, England
  • Father was a clergyman
  • Loved to read and play pretend

EDUCATION

  • Clergy Daughter's school at Cowan bridge
  • Educated at home before she went to the clergy school
  • Tried to open a school with her sister but failed

CAREER

  • Began writing in 1829
  • She published Jane Eyre in 1847
  • She wrote Shirley in 1848

CAREER CONT.

  • She wrote Vilette in 1853
  • She wrote under Pseudonym of Currer Ellis
  • She persuaded her sisters to publish under the same name
  • After Shirley was published the public knew her name
