John Cabot was sponsored by King Henry 7th of England. Cabot was hoping to find a sea route to Asia by sailing west across the Atlantic Ocean. John was inspired by Christopher Columbus and he studied him.

John Cabot's Journey
John departed from Bristol with 5 ships and a crew of 300 men.
On their route, 1 ship became disabled and sailed to Ireland.
The other ships continued on without the other ship.
For many years it is believed that the ships were lost at sea.
But documents recently showed that they didn't die.

CABOT'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS
John claimed land in Newfoundland for England.
He discovered parts of Canada.
Cabot claimed North America for England.
This setting the course for England's rise to power in the 16th and 17th centuries.

John Cabot is overall a very important person. He discovered parts of Canada and established England's claim to North America.
