PURPOSE OF THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

  • The purpose of the digestive system is to remove vitamins and minerals from the foods we eat and provide our bodies with energy. The grape that we eat will travel through our body and each part will show what happens when it gets there.

FOOD SOURCES

  • Grapes are a good food source that are very healthy for the body and easy to digest.

VIRAMINS/MINERALS

  • Grapes are a good source of potassium, manganese, and iron. They also hold calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and zinc.

MOUTH

  • As the trap enters the mouth, the teeth chop and cut it up. The tongue softens the grape along with the saliva. This makes it chemical and mechanical.

ESOPHAGUS

  • The grape then gets swallowed and travels down the esophagus. This is a long tube that goes to the stomach. It's a mechanical process.

STOMACH

  • The stomach is a mechanical and chemical process. It churns the food and breaks it into very tiny pieces. It also has a chemical that mixes with the food and helps break it down.

LIVER/PANCREAS

  • The liver is a chemical process in which toxins are taken from blood and makes while( the acid that breaks down fats).the pancreas is am enzyme producing organ that digests carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Also a chemical process.

SMALL INTESTINE

  • A long rope of intestine that uses digestive juices to break down the food even more and absorbs the nutrients through its walls and moves any left overs to the large intestine. A chemical process.

LARGE INTESTINE

  • After the small intestine, the food goes through the large intestine. The large intestine the the organ that removed any water left in the food. Acts as a pump.

SUMMARY

  • The digestive system is a very important part of the body. As food travels through the body, each part has a very important role to do to get every nutrient, vitamin, bit of water, etc. possible. Without it, we could not digest our food properly.
