PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Parable of the Lost Sheep
15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them.
Doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
Message behind the parable
The man owns 100 sheep, and if one goes missing, he will leave his 99 and look for that one sheep. upon finding that sheep, he is happier about that one sheep than the 99 that did not wander off. In the same way that God is happy when you come back into his arms, even though we have sinned God will always welcome us back with open arms.
The message is illustrated when the shepherd finds that one sheep that was lost and brings him back, it shows God guiding us back safely into the family of God
Themes
Themes displayed in this parable are happiness, welcoming and forgiving. The Shepard (God) is glad when the lost sheep (us) go back into the family of God, he will look and guide us back until we are safe.
The Catholic social agency i have chosen is Caritas. Their mission is to provide help and relief to people after a major disaster
The message in the parable ‘The Lost Sheep’ is evident through the works of this agency when they helps people recover from major disasters and become a welcoming community to them, helping them to find their family members and to help them forget about the terrible trauma. Which relates to the Shepard finding the sheep and guiding him back to the family of God, just like how Caritas guides the people back to their family and to help them live a peaceful life again.
How it relates to our everyday life
Jesus would want me to take aboard the message of God being our guider in life and when we are lost he will come and lead us back. Everyone will be sinners sometime in their life, Jesus wants us to repent and ask for God’s forgiveness, because he will always welcome and guide us back to him. In my own life, I will try live this message by asking for forgiveness when I sin and also forgiving others who have sinned against me. By doing this I am living out Jesus’ message from the parable
