THE MIDWIFES APPRENTICE

CHAPTER 1- THE DUNG HEAP

• Brat/Beetle is an orphan that has no home, food, or friends. She is bullied in every village she goes to. The midwife accepts her as an apprentice in exchange for food and shelter

CHAPTER 2- THE CAT

• The boys take the cat and put it in a bag with a eel. She saves the cat and brings the cat cheese and bread. Then the cat leaves

CHAPTER 3 - THE MIDWIFE

• Jane sharp doesn't want Beetle to learn her skills because Beetle could take her job.
• Beetle began to recognize herbs, syrups, and powders used by the midwife. The midwife doesn't want her to learn

CHAPTER 4- THE MILLER'S WIFE

• Beetle discovers that Jane is having a affair with the Baker. The Miller finds Beetle and drags her to his cottage to help deliver their baby. Beetle is unable to deliver the baby and the midwife has to do it.

CHAPTER 5- THE MERCHANT

• Beetle went to the fair since the midwife broke her ankle. The merchant at the fair complimented her, and gave her a free comb. Beetle recognizes that she has worth, and starts to call herself Alyce.

CHAPTER 6 - THE NAMING

• Alyce takes ownership of her name and names the cat as well. The villagers don't accept her new name. After saving Will from drowning, he calls her Alyce.

CHAPTER 7- THE DEVIL

• The villagers fear that the Devil is at work in their town. Devil's tracks are found. Alyce is responsible for the footprints and "punishes those who have tormented her".
