MENSTRUAL CYCLE FACTS

  • Typically lasts 28-35 days
  • Doesn't become regular until late teens early 20's.
  • Days 1-5 menstruation
  • Days 5-13 egg matures
  • Day 14-15 ovulation/egg is releases from ovary

MENSTRUAL CYCLE FACTS CONTINUED...

  • Day 16-22 eggs travels through Fallopian tubes
  • Days 23-28 the unfertilized egg reaches the uterus
  • Cycle begins again with menstraution.
  • Increase in metabolism before you get your period. You might crave more salty or sweet foods.
  • Premenstrual stress (PMS) : is a series symptoms of women experiences before she gets her period.

PMS: A WOMAN COULD EXPERIENCE:

  • Mood swings

  • The fertilized egg travels down the Fallopian tube and implants in the uterus
  • Blastocyst divides rapidly to form the yolk sack (primitive amniotic sac) and placenta
  • First two months of development major body systems
  • Typical pregnancy is 40 weeks (9 months) depending on when fertilization occurred.
  • Having a healthy diet, taking prenatal vitamins, exercising, and abstaining from alcohol/tobacco/drugs is crucial

HARMFUL EFFECTS OF S.T.I.

  • Cause pain, discomfort, and embarrassment
  • Increased risk of infertility and certain cancers
  • Many are treated with medicines, some are in curable.
  • If untreated some are fatal
  • AIDS is a fatal disease. The medicines help prolong life.

HIV INFECTION FACTS

  • Transmitted through blood, semen, vaginal secretions, mother to baby
  • HIV leads to AIDS
  • There are two stages a person experiences with HIV before they get AIDS:
  • A symptomatic stage: flulike symptoms that go away after a few weeks
  • Symptomatic stage: weight loss, persistent fever, diarrhea, or fungal infections.

  • It can be 10+ years before some develops AIDs from HIV
  • Medications treat the infections not get rid of the disease.

AIDS

  • When they is a specific low number of the "Helper T cells" the person has AIDS
  • People don't die from AIDS but from opportunistic infections: tuberculosis, pneumonia, fungal infections
  • A person with AIDS is dependent on taking a numbers of medications a day
