THE MODERN ERA

Capitalism
- Free market system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.
- Economic concepts such as the supply and demand equilibrium and the introduction of privatized and public sectors affected the government, created joint-stock companies, and created entrepreneurs.
- Overall social change in Early Modern Europe with profit seeking interests creating a hierarchy of classes and increasing the independence of nuclear families.

Constitutionalism
-The British and Dutch developed limited governments and individual rights.
-Wealthy merchants were prominent and policies were developed that encouraged trade. This was very prosperous.

Enlightenment

European period of Enlightenment started in he 18th century, when Europeans started to further appreciate the arts and philosophy of the world. The Enlightenment be out he arrival of new books, paintings, inventions and laws to explain the different views of life. The American and French Revolutions were directly inspired by Enlightenment ideals and respectively marked the peak of its influence and the beginning of its decline.

Scientific Revolution (17th century)

A new way of thinking about the physical world
Used experiments and reasoning instead of relying on observations
Began with Copernicus who suggested that we revolved around sun
Isaac Newton's discovery of gravity
Affected by exploration, universities, Renaissance
