1. OVERALL MESSAGES

  • Positive: make the most of life, materialism is bad
  • Negative: women are objects, forgiveness is a weakness

2. SONG THAT REFLECTS VALUES

  • "Forget You" most embodies both the good and bad values
  • It says materialism is bad, we must live for love and others
  • But it also spreads hate and holds to grudges, uses bad words
  • I value forgiveness, love , faith, and creativity
  • It is catchy, but hateful and vengeful, it does not match my values

3. GOSPEL MESSAGES

  • Values love over things
  • Conflicts because uses bad words, no forgiveness

4. MUSIC IS DESTRUCTIVE

  • Popular singers are tying to get shock value and push the bonds
  • They sing about risqué, and taboo topics in loose moral ways
  • Yes, they need to express themselves, but in constructive, social ways
  • Young people hear these songs and learn that immoral behavior is okay
  • When good and bad becomes relative in songs, the society suffers

REFLECTION QUESTION

  • Do you think it is ok to make break up songs that demean the ex?
  • Where is the line between praising a woman's beauty and objectifying her?
