NERVOUS SYSTEM

  • Central nervous system
  • Peripheral nervous system
The central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord.
The peripheral nervous system is made up of the nerve fibers that branch off from the spinal cord and extend to all parts of the body, including the neck and arms, torso, legs, skeletal muscles and internal organs.

MAIN PARTS OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

  • Brain
  • Spinal cord
  • Neurons
The cells that make up the nervous system are called neurons. Long, stringy neurons are perfect for carrying the electrical messages that are the "language" of the nervous system.

DID YOU KNOWS

  • Babies have 10 million cells
  • We use only 4% of our brain
  • We have nerve pairs
A baby's brain consists of 10 million nerve cells at birth

On average humans only use 4% of their brain at one time.

Our bodies contain 43 nerve pairs which connect the central nervous system to the rest of our body. Twelve pairs connected to the brain and 31 pairs connect to our spinal chord.
