The Discourse Community in Punk
When trying to join a band, every decision is a team effort.
There is not just one gatekeeper.
Knowledge of the different types of equipment and lingo is essential for this type of discourse community.
-Guitars, amps, recording equipment, set lists, terms used in practice, and even just knowing how to play your instrument.
Band practice serves as a way to improve sound and teach a new member how to play the songs that were already written.
Once you've showed that you are able to learn and play the songs, you are almost ready to start playing shows.
But joining a band is being a part of a discourse community, and
everybody in the band have to share a common interest...
To write music that you enjoy, be apart of the scene, and play your music at big events for people to listen and become fans of your music!
