THE HISTORY OF THE NILE RIVER
The river got its name from the Greek word Neilos, which means valley.
Egypt’s population has depended on the Nile for thousands of years.
The Egyptians have rightly termed it as the "river of life", since it has given life to land.

THE CATARACTS
They are all located in the southern part of of the Nile.
They are rapids or either waterfalls that are difficult to pass by.
They would build pathways that would allow small boats to pass.

The two major tributes of the nile are the white river and the blue river.
They meet at Khartoum, Sudan.

FUN FACTS
It is the longest river in the world.
The drainage basin of the Nile covers about one tenth of all of Africa.
The Ancient Egyptians called the Nile, the Great River.
Only 22% of the river passes through Egypt.
The river flows mainly through an area of desert.
