  • In 1042, Edward the Confessor, descendant of King Arthur, was crowned king
  • He named his cousin Norman , duke of Normandy to be his successor
  • After Edward's death they appointed an earl named Earl to succeed him

  • Led his army in successful invasion of britain
  • Known as the norman conquest
  • He was crowned king

THE ANGLO-SAXON REIGN ENDS

  • The Norman Conquest has ended the Anglo-Saxon era in England
  • All the Anglo-Saxons lost their land and their leadership
  • Also, lost their conquerors which made the Anglo-Saxon Nobles into peasants
  • Normans took the Noble position

  • The Anglo- Saxons began as seafaring invaders who lived short and violent lives.
  • The Anglo- Saxons became less violent when they moved to the new land.
  • The Anglo- Saxons had a strong pagan religion and admiration for heroic figures.
  • Their culture eventually evolved into believing in wyrd, which meant fate.
