THE BEGINNING

  • The Normans were descendants of the viking conquerers of France and England
  • The Normans were not French but the conquerers of Paris
  • The Normans came from european viking territories(Merovingian culture)
  • Over time they formed blood relations with English Royalty
  • After the battle of Hastings the normans conquered England(birth of feudalism)

NORMAN INVASION

  • During the conquest of England Duke William II was in power
  • Duke William later became the king of England
  • Conquest was easy for Duke William II because blood relations were fromed between english royals
  • For example of the above, The marriage of Emma Sister of Duke Richard and King Ethelred II of England
  • The main battle was the battle of Hastings in 1066, Duke Richard of Normandy conquered England

THE END

  • Even after english conquest the Normans faced many problems
  • There were many rebellions of the English people to Norman rule
  • There were also rebellions on higher powers like- The revolt of earls in 1075
  • There were also external problems, such as the Danish troubles in 1070
  • Sweyn II of Denmark arrived to take advantage of an earlier agreement
