PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE NUCLEUS

BY STERLING SMITH

The History
The nucleus was the first part of the cell to be discovered. It was discovered by Anton Von Leeuvanhoek .

THE MAIN FUNCTIONS

  • Store and protect genetic infromation
  • Regulates gene expression which regulates cell activity
  • The "control center" of the cell
  • Contains hereditary information of the stucture and function of an organism
  • Contains chromosomes

LESSER KNOWN FACTS

  • The nucleolus part of the inside of the nucleus makes ribosomes
  • Organizes and regulates larger genomes
  • The genes can form specialized muscles like skin

THE CELL STRUCTURE (NUCLEAR ENVOLOPE)

  • Nuclear membrane
  • Made up of the inner and outer membranes
  • The outer membrane is part of the endoplasmic riticulm
  • The space between the membranes is the perinuclear space
  • Separtes the genetic material from the cytoplasm

THE CELL STRUCTURE (NUCLEIC PORES)

  • In the nuclear envelope
  • Made up of protiens
  • Regulate the passage of molecules through the cytoplasm
  • Allows RNA and other materials in the nulceus

PARKINSON'S DISEASE

  • Occurs when dopamine producing neutrons malfunction an die
  • These protiens dying cause the plasy symptoms and most have defective nulclei
  • These cells cause the signaling pathways to be reduced
  • This causes high reactive oxygen compounds to damage cells
  • Dopamine is a neurtransmitter

Role In Protein Synthesis
The nucleus is where DNA is transcribed into RNA. Then the RNA goes through the cytoplasm to its correct location
