Chaunticleer

Chaunticleer

  • His comb was finest coral red and tall, And battlemented like a castle wall. His bill was black and like the jet it glowed, His legs and toes like azure when he strode. His nails were whiter than the lilies bloom, Like burnished gold the color of his plume.

  • Chaunticleer had a horrible dream about a fox attacking him and ripping his body into shreds, so he quickly woke up his wife ,Pertelote, to tell her of this gruesome sight.

  • The next day as Chaunticleer sang his beautiful morning song, an evil fox leaped and snatched him up into his ferocious jaw. Everyone instantly chased after the fox in hopes of saving Chaunticleer.

  • Chaunticleer then escaped out of the fox's mouth and flew to the nearest tree limb he could find. The fox tried to trick him once more, but Chaunticleer was not going to be fooled again. When Chaunticleer arrived back at the old cottage, he then said to Pertelote "You should have believed me the first time!"

This tale could be mainly described as a beast fable. This is a story of how an ordinary rooster behaves somewhat of a human, and how humans can basically behave like animals.
