ARCHETYPES

SITUATIONAL ARCHETYPES

  • Hero's task: To return home and get rid of the suitors
  • Hero's quest: returning to Ithaca after going to the underworld and different countries
  • Battle between good and evil: Athena, Odysseus, and two others vs. the suitors

CHARACTER ARCHETYPES

  • Hero: Odysseus
  • Mentor: Athena
  • Creatures of nightmare: The Suitors/Sirens/cyclopses
  • Evil figure with a good heart: Circe (which-goddess who at first turns some of Odysseus's crew into pigs, but later turns them back and allows them to stay for a while)

  • Athena, Zeus, Poseidon, Calypso, and cyclopses all represent that this is a Greek Myth
