The importance of friendship is displayed in the book because Ponyboy and his gang all have a strong bond that helps them get through some troubling times.

Judging people as a group is displayed by the way the Socs treat all Greasers the same because of there affiliation and the same with the Greasers to the Socs.

Sacrificing for others is shown when Ponyboy talks about how Darry didn't go to college, but instead got a job so he could support the family.

Class based conflict is represented with the conflict of the Socs & Greasers because they only fight because they think there way of life is better.

Loyalty is shown by how Ponyboy's gang protects together to help each other no matter what. For example how Dally risked going to jail by helping Johnny and Ponyboy after Bob's murder.
