GENERAL INFO

  • One of the most ancient parts of Rome
  • It is rather a field, surrounded by hills and buildings
  • Located in the province of Rome
  • Stands 40 meters above the Forum Romanum
  • Surrounded by Roman forum and Circus Maximus on either side

HISTORY & ORIGINS

  • By the time of Rome's Republican era,
  • It became a fashionable place to live...
  • Because of amazing views on top of the hill.
  • Inhabited back to tenth century B.C.

CONNECTION TO MYTHOLOGY

  • According to roman mythology,
  • Palatine Hill was location of the cave where Romulus and Remus
  • Were found by the "shewolf" Lupa
  • These two men are essential to Ancient Rome's development.
  • Apparently, Romulus established Rome on the Palatine Hill after killing his twin brother, Remus.

THE HILL TODAY

  • Appears as ruins but is still a main tourist attraction
  • #77 for top #100 tourist attractions.
  • Has 4.5 /5 stars for trip advisor.
