- The U.S. Sent troops to South Vietnam to aid them
- China and USSR aided North Vietnam

- The name given to a secret Department of Defense
- In 1968 Daniel Ellsberg leaked the papers to the public
- Ellsberg opposed the war and wanted it to be available to the public
- He secretly photocopied the papers and sent it to the New York Times
- It was a study of U.S. involvement from the end of WWII to present day
