THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER
CHARACTERS
-CHARLIE is always in his head. He has all sorts of ideas of what he wants to do when he gets older but never actually does anything.
-SAM is a very kind and mature girl that takes things very seriously. Charlie is attracted to Sam since the day he meets her.
-PATRICK is one of Charlie's best friends and is never afraid to adventure. He's also in a secret relationship with a guy named Brad.
INITIATING CONFLICT
The first conflict is Charlie's aunts death. He writes all these letters to a person and never says who it is. Then there's an argument between Charlie's family. His sister has a boyfriend who physically abuses her and she doesn't do anything about it. Her dad tells her to brake up with him but she denies it. Charlie covers up for her throughout the whole time.
SETTING
The main setting of the book is their school. The characters go through their wild roller-coaster days during their high school year.
RESOLUTION QUESTION
Will Sam and Charlie end up together at the end of the book ?
COMPLICATION 1
Charlie has loved Sam since the first time he ever saw her, but she doesn't feel the same way about him. She thinks she's too old for him since she's a senior and he's a freshman.
COMPLICATION 2
Charlie looses his closest friends which are Sam and Patrick. He starts smoking and doing drugs. He's sister then finds out about it and tells him to stop. Charlie's sister also gets pregnant from the guy that hits her.
COMPLICATION 3
Sam and Patrick move away to collage and Charlie still stays in high school. It's really hard for Charlie to say goodbye to Sam and they have a special moment before she leaves. He doesn't know what to do, now that everybody left.
REAL LIFE MESSAGE
The author was trying to tell the reader to not let anything stop you from doing what's right. Hurting yourself just to make someone else happy isn't the right thing to do because your not being honest with them.
PEOPLE WHO WOULD ENJOY THIS BOOK
I think a teenager that really likes drama would like this book because its full of family drama and problems between friends. Someone really outgoing will enjoy this book because it includes sex, drugs, and the coming of age of a teenager.
STAR RATING
I give this book a 4 star rating because it really explains the order of coming of age for a teenager. The story of a freshmen and a senior, and the different point of views of their situations. The different ways they solve them really stands out and the difference between how they take things.
