The Plowman

No Description

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE PLOWMAN

  • “God loved he best with al his hoole herte / At alle tymes, thogh him gamed or smerte, / And thanne his neighebor right as hym-selve. “
  • The plowman is the humble Everyman who goes out in his raggedy pants and shirt. He values God and religion strongly.
  • The Plowman carries himself with his handplow, his compassion, and faith.

SOCIAL CLASS

  • The plowman is just about the lowest of the low in social class
  • He volunteers to do the dirtiest jobs
  • I don’t believe Chaucer was criticizing this character but more so was criticizing other characters by showing how this peasant shines brighter in society. He upholds the values most people claim to but don’t practice.
