PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Principles of Games Design
VISUAL STYLE
The visual style for any game will include the of components in the game such as the look of the world and the characters whether they be controlled by the player or NPC's. When looking for a visual style for a game, you would need to take into account information such as. Where is the game set? What year is the game set and the wealth of the area the game is set. Also the tone of the game whether it be a light-hearted game like Little Big Planet or a game with a more realistic, serious tone like Battlefield 4.
HOW CAN SETTING EFFECT A GAMES ENVIRONMENT?
The setting of a game can effect the environment in many ways. For example if a game was set in a small Russian village, it would effect the accent people of that village have and how they would speak and the language they would speak. It would also effect what people in that village look like, how many people are there, depending on the size of the village and how environment aspects such as houses and streets would look depending on the time the game is set and the location.
GAME WORLD
When a developer is making a world for a game, they're going to have to make a world that is going to intrigue and immerse the player and that is visually appealing to them. The game world itself includes the terrain, buildings and objects. Many games feature an open world for the player to explore, The most popular of which being Grand Theft Auto V.
TERRAIN
Terrain is simply the surface that everything in the game world is built upon. The includes all models that are to be included in the game.
GAMEPLAY
Gameplay is the most important aspect to creating a game. A game without gameplay isn't really a game. Gameplay is to do with everything the player will and intend to do in the game world. There are many different aspects that go into gameplay.
SINGLE-PLAYER Vs MULTIPLAYER GAMEPLAY
The difference in these two is pretty self explanatory. When playing a single-player game mode the player is completely dependent on themselves. When playing a single-player game. All of the enemies (if they are featured in the game) will be AI controlled (by a computer) . Multiplayer games are of course games where two or more people are involved. Many of the most popular multiplayer games being those of the Call of Duty franchise, League of legends, CS:GO etc. The most common genre for multiplayer games to be are first person shooters, as they are easy to get into and sell for a lot of money. But multiplayer games can only be developed if there is a budget that the game is going to succeed. If it were a indie development company, It would be more of a financial benefit to create a single player, story based game.
Narrative
This is creating the base story for a video game. When developing for a single player game, you would want the narrative (the story) to be as immersive as possible. If a game was solely single player and didn't have an intriguing narrative then people are not going to want to buy/play that game. It is used to tell the player what is happening in the game. An example of a game which is well known for its narrative is The Last of Us
DIFFERENT GAME GENRES -
FIRST-PERSON SHOOTER
The first-person genre is one of the most popular genres in video games. The most successful of these being games like the Battlefield franchise and the Call of Duty franchise. The main aspect of these games, is the multiplayer with the single-player taking a back seat and not being a main priority. Even though games like Call of Duty Black Ops do hire well known script writers for there campaign.

FIRST-PERSON SHOOTER CONTINUED
The mass appeal of First-Person Shooters is due to their simple gameplay and objectives and their fast paced gameplay. Common features of FPS's are the ability to level up yourself and your guns in multiplayer mode. The main objective of any FPS's is to kill as many opposing targets as possible. The most popular first person games at the moment are all from the Call of Duty Franchise. But this franchise is currently dying out and losing popularity.
