  • Martin Luther - Monk of the Catholic Church; figure of the Reformation
  • Disliked the corruption of the Church (selling of indulgences)
  • Ignorance of basic Church teachings, Bible only in Latin
  • Luther wrote 95 Theses (complaints about the Church)
  • Was excommunicated; separated from the Church and led his own church

Orgins of the lutheran church

  • Led by Martin Luther; thus "Lutheran" Church
  • Originally started in Germany
  • Based on some Catholic beliefs

Sin & salvation

  • Faith alone in God & believing in Jesus Christ
  • Following the Church teachings and the truth of the Bible
  • Repentance...
  • These were the ways to reach salvation

  • Martin Luther - Main Leader of the Church
  • Made up of bishops, priests, and deacons
  • Was not governed by a pope

  • Practice the Sacraments of Baptism & Communion
  • Strongly believe in The Bible
  • Believe and have faith alone in Jesus Christ
  • Combines Catholic and Lutheran practices

Community life

  • Observed the Mass; liturgical Church
  • Mostly spoke in German
  • Priests were free to marry
  • Had discipline and strong families
