In "Healing PTSD by restoring faith" by Makenna Berry, it discusses how faith can affect someone healing from Post- traumatic stress syndrome. Soldiers are unfortunately the top group for being diagnosed with PTSD from combat. War causes deep scarring on them and causes them to feel at fault constantly for the deaths of their men and their enemy. PTSD is a disorder that constantly reminds someone of trauma they have witnessed and causes them to feel guilt and anxiety. This forces them to accept that they have lost faith in their lives. In this source, they did an experiment where soldiers would recite verses from their religion when they would feel anxious and before bed. "The mantra practice may have given them a sense that there is a higher power or inner strength that is there to help them overcome their pain. The practice opened them up to a greatness that will support them in dealing with their trauma" (Berry). This practice was able to help the soldiers because it gave them something to put their faith in and allowed them to feel secure.
