RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

  • Main Functions of The Respiratory System
  • Supply oxygenated blood to the body
  • Enable you to breath
  • Inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide

DIAGRAM OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Main Parts And What They Do
The Lungs- The Lungs take in air and help the air move.
Trachea-The Trachea filters the air we breath and branches into the bronchi.
Bronchi- The bronchi are two air tubes that brach of of the trachea and go directly to the lungs.
Diaphragm-The diaphragm pulls your lungs down to let air in.

Teamwork
The respiratory system works with the digestive system by supplying oxygen to the digestive system.

The skeletal system works with the respiratory system by protecting the lungs.

The circulatory system helps by transporting nutrients to the lungs and helps keep them clean.

FUN FACTS

  • Over 300 million alveoli are found in the lungs
  • The right lung is larger than the left lung
  • The average person breaths about 13 pints of air a minute
  • Approximately 1500 miles of airways are the in human lung
  • The breathing rate is fastest in women and children

FUN FACTS

  • A person at rest breathes about 15 times a minutes
  • We loose half a liter of water a day through breathing
  • The highest record "sneeze speed" is 165 km per hour
  • Hairs in the nose help clean the air we breath
  • The capillaries in the lungs would extend 1600 km if end to end
