Getting started

Familiarizing yourself with the campus

  • How do I get to the campus Bookstore?
  • Where are all of my classes located? Major Dept?
  • Identify where your resources are and use the website
  • Find some good places to study and try them out
  • Where's the closest grocery store?

Make a few friends

  • Get to know your roommate
  • Be open to talk with new people in the dorms & in class
  • Seek out other students that have the same major as you
  • Be willing to share interesting things about yourself
  • Invite your new friends to come and study as a group

Understand your class schedule

  • Make sure you're enrolled in the correct classes
  • The campus map will be your BFF
  • Take a quick walking tour the day before school- bring a friend
  • Become familiar with the add/drop process

  • Selecting a major and/or minor
  • Understand how to calculate your GPA
  • Completing General Education requirements
  • Find the various offices on campus that offer academic support
  • Introduce yourself to your professors; don't be afraid of them

  • What additional graduation requirements are there?

  • Seek out leadership opportunities
  • Locate the Student Life office and check out clubs/orgs
  • Discover your best practices for studying
  • Do your best to balance your school time with real life
