WOMENS FASHION (THE ERA OF THE FLAPPER)

  • Dresses were bright and shorter
  • Short bobbed hair
  • Flapper -short dresses with straight silhouettes coming to right above knee
  • Pantsuits, hats, and canes

MENS FASHION

  • Suits were most common
  • Suspenders became popular
  • Bow ties
  • News boy caps
  • Pocket watches and canes

TRANSPORTATION

  • Only affordable by the wealthy
  • Dominant form of travel was trains and ocean liners
  • Air travel became available

TRANSPORTATION WITH CARS

  • Cars were becoming more popular
  • Due to this roads were having to be redeveloped
  • The model A replaced the model T

THE MUSIC

  • The 1920s served as the birth of the jazz age
  • It spread from New Orleans to Chicago and New York
  • Broadway Musicals and Ragtime also came to hype

  • Popular artist included
  • King Oliver, Louis Armstrong,
  • Kid Ory and Duke Ellington

THE MAFIA

  • An American-Italian organized crime network
  • Centrally located in New York and Chicago
  • We're the center of the liquor trade during prohibition

  • Well known mobsters are Al Capone and John Gotti
  • They accomplished infiltrating labor unions, drug trafficking, and gambling
  • The government convicted high ranked mobsters and weakened the mafia
  • The Mafia still exist to this day though

  • The 1920s was considered the dance craze age
  • Dance was fast pace and energetic
  • Was meant as a distraction from the horrors of war

  • The foxtrot, the charleston
  • The tango, and shimming.
  • This is also where grinding came into the picture.
