PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN ANCIENT EGYPT

Women played a big role in Ancient Egypt. They took care of their homes, children, and husbands.

Women in Egypt had more rights than the women in any other ancient civilization. They could decide who to marry, run a business, get a job, and own, buy, and sell property.

Women were also able to become pharaohs, although it wasn't very common. There have only been seven pharaohs that were women; Meryt-Neith, Nitocris, Sobeknofru, Hatshepsut, Nefertiti, Twosrut, and Cleopatra. This is a bust of Nefertiti in the background.

Even though women had a lot of rights, there were still things that they weren't allowed to do, such as going into war.

Women in Ancient Egypt were treated much more differently than the women in Ancient Mesopotamia were.

In Egypt, women were able to be out of their houses, even when their husbands were out. In Mesopotamia, a woman would be drowned if they left the house.

In Egypt, women could decide who to marry, and who not to marry. In Mesopotamia, women couldn't decide who to marry. They also didn't have the rights of divorce.

Women in both civilizations also had similarities. They each got married at a young age and had to be good wives and mothers.

In conclusion, women were believed to be almost as equal to men in Ancient Egypt.
