WHY DOES HYPOCRISY ALWAYS DESTROY SOCIETY?

My essential question is why does hypocrisy always destroy society.

The article “The Impact of Hypocrisy on Opinion Formation: A Dynamic Model” describes how hypocrisy is destructive in society. Michael Szell explains how hypocrisy is destructive to church, your conscious, and society. Hypocrisy is hurting many and leading them to being self-destructive as in drinking, stealing, and smoking.

CHURCH

Many people, like Christian’s are very hypocritical when it comes to church. These hypocrites claim to love their neighbor as themselves, and yet most of the time they are the first ones to say something hateful to others, about their race, ethnicity, or politics.

In “The Scarlet Letter” The Puritan community was portrayed by Hawthorne as a contrast to Hester through hypocritical actions and of Man’s law.

CONSCIOUSNESS

Consciousness:

Another example of how hypocrisy is slowly destroying this world is by peoples counsiousness. Many people don’t think before they take action and that could lead to destruction.

Just like how Hester’s community would shame her and hate on her, when they didn’t even know her whole story yet. They jumped right to a conclusion that they didn’t even know was right.

SOCIETY

Society:

My last reason on why hypocrisy always destroys society, is the community itself. Hypocrites always seem to want to hurt others by talking bad about them behind their back. Hypocrites always say one thing and then do the opposite, which is unfair, unjust, and unreasonable.

Many ways that hypocrisy was destructive in society, in the scarlet letter, was with either the Puritan community or the characters. Dimmesdale acted like a hypocrite by putting his sin away and trying to forget about it, as if he hadn’t committed adultery. While Hester and Pearl have to take all the hate of the community.
