Why should modern society reject Puritan beliefs? (Societal, Religious)

There were various puritans who “argued about causing social friction” (McCall).

Fiona McCall states that various puritans have opposed practices and had stressed their own beliefs to the point where the government had considered them a threat to the church and the state.

One “issue was the puritan habit of ‘sermon gadding’ - going elsewhere to listen to popular preachers” (McCall).

The Puritans were known for stressing religious values, but they themselves were not faithful to their own church. With that unfaithfulness, the Puritan beliefs does not highlight any sort of religious devotion.

The “Puritans were a minority, but” they had “powerful supporters amongst the elite” that “pointedly criticized the Church” (McCall).

In a country that advocates the freedom of religion, this community abuses the seat of power to make one religion dominant. By doing so, it would violate the very foundation of how this country was created.

When threatened to have Pearl taken away, Hester declares that she “will not lose the child” (Hawthorne 104).

A religion should have no right to break apart families, so the beliefs are proved to be faulty even from that. If a religion has power to command the separation of a mother and a daughter, then it would not be a religion, but a merciless tyrant.
