  • He's credited with creating the senate
  • He killed his brother Remus
  • A she-wolf cared for Romulus and Remus when they were kids
  • Romulus and his brother Remus are twins
  • Romulus was the First King of Rome

Numa Pompilius

715-673 BC

Numa Pompilius

  • Credited with establishing religion, in that he formalized rites and rituals
  • Credited with creating a calendar which moved from 10 months to 12 months
  • Built the temple of Janus
  • Established the boundaries of Rome
  • He was the Second King of Rome

Tullius Hostilius

673-641 BC

Tullius Hostilius

  • Is credited with building the Curia Hostilia
  • Numa was peaceful but Tullus was hostile
  • He's the Third King of Rome
  • Tullius deafted the Albans
  • Tullius was killed when he was struck by lighting

  • He defeated the Old Latins
  • Added the Aventine and Janiculum hills
  • Is credited with creating the port Ostia
  • Is credited with making the first aqueduct
  • Ancus is the Fourth King of Rome

  • He was an Etruscan
  • Had been a friend of Ancus Marcius and was considered to be “very honest”
  • Defeated the Sabines
  • assassinated by the sons of Ancus Marcius
  • Tarquinius is the Fifth King of Rome
  • Possibly started the Temple of Jupiter Capitolinus

  • Servius was the Sixth King of Rome
  • He added the Quirinal, Viminal and Esquiline hills to Rome.
  • credited with building the Temple of Diana.
  • credited with the first walls (The Servian Wall) but it was not built until much later.
  • King Servius was stabbed to death

Tarquinius Superbus

  • Tarquinus was the Seventh King of Rome (the last king)
  • Made Rome the head of the Latin League.
  • Finished or built the Temple of Iupiter Capitolinus or Iupiter Optimus Maximus
  • Built the Cloaca Maxima
  • Tarquinius was forced into exile by a group of nobles
