Baptism

  • is the first sacrament
  • one of the sacraments of initiation
  • is when a person becomes a member of the Catholic church
  • leaves a permanent mark on the soul

  • anyone can baptize someone, but especially when someone is in danger of death
  • forgives you of your original sin

Reconciliation

  • also known as Penance
  • about forgiveness
  • people are supposed to receive in once a yea

  • about restoring your relationship with God

Eucharist

  • Also known as Communion
  • Receiving the Body and Blood of Christ
  • Symbolizes the Last Supper
  • Sacrament of Initiation

Eucharist

  • Reenactment of the Last Supper
  • Can be received at every mass
  • when you receive it you are immediately united with Jesus

Confirmation

  • confirmation is understood as bestowing the Holy Spirit
  • it signifies entering adulthood in the catholic church
  • strengthens of one’s faith

Confirmation

  • completes the process of initiation into the Catholic community
  • Confirmation is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong

Matrimony

  • sacrament of service
  • between two baptized people
  • A valid Sacrament of Matrimony requires the presence of a priest or deacon

  • Rings are used to signify the everlasting bond

Holy Orders

  • can only be preformed by a bishop
  • received in steps
  • Holy Orders is the Sacrament that gives a man the powers of the Catholic Priesthood
  • involves the laying on of hands

Anointing of the Sick

  • also known as Last Rites
  • ritual of healing
  • most likely one of the last sacrament one will receive

Anointing if the Sick

  • for anyone really ill or going to have surgery
  • may be received more than once
