Summary😁
Jack Long a reporter moves his family to Houston because of his job. While on the job he meets Larry Thompson who leads the student nonviolent coordinating committee (SNCC). Larry saves jack from violence at the protest because blacks and whites didn't get along nor did they like each other that much. But Jack and Larry were different they didn't automatically dislike each other because of their races. They both seem to find common ground even with the protests, riots, and racism around them☺️🙌.
Theme🌟
The color of your skin doesn't matter at all. Just because you are a different race does not mean you get treated differently from anyone else. Your born the way you are and can not change that so nobody else has the right to judge.

The silence of our friends is based on real events. The author mark long based this book on some things from his childhood experiences. His father was really a local reporter in Houston around this time and did meet a guy named Larry Thomas who was an editor at the time.
