PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
THE SOLAR SYSTEM
PAYTON S, BRANDI A, VICTORIA H, NICOLE W/NOVEMBER 21,2013/7TH PERIOD
2.
THE SUN
The largest object in the solar system
The diameter is 1,390,000km
The highly rare field region above the chromosphere, called the corona (sun)
3.
MERCURY
Closer to the sun than earth
Has been visited by two spacecrafts -mariner 10 & messenger
Temperature variations are the most extreme in the solar system, ranging from 90k to 100k
4.
VENUS
Venus has been around since prehistoric times
Venus' rotation is somewhat unusual in that it is both very slow, slightly longer than earths
The oldest terrain is told to be over 8 million years old
5.
EARTH
The core is thought to be iron and nickel
The earth is the densest major body in the solar system
The earths atmosphere is 71%nitrogen and 29% oxygen
6.
MARS
Mars has no atmosphere
Mars has two tiny asteroid-size moons called Phobos and Deimos
Mars has water under the surface in the form of ice
7.
JUPITER
Jupiter is 318 times the mass of all the planet together
The spot on Jupiter has been estimated to have been there 350 years
If you get binoculars or a telescope you are more than likely to be able to see it
8.
SATURN
Galileo was the first to observe it with a telescope in 1610
First visited by NASA's pioneer 11 in 1919 and later by voyager & voyager 2
Earth passes through the rings of Saturn every few years as Saturn moves into its orbit
9.
URANUS
On.y one space craft "the voyager 2" has landed on Uranus
Uranus' atmosphere is made of about 83% hydrogen, 15% helium and 2% methane
It's blue color is the result of the absorption of red light by methane
10.
NEPTUNE
It has 13 unknown moons
It's magnetic field is off center and at a large angle to its relation axis
Pluto sometimes crosses Neptune's orbit sometimes
