WHAT DOES THE SOLAR SYSTEM CONSIST OF?

  • It consists of:
  • The sun
  • 8 planets with their satellites
  • Dwarf planets
  • Small solar system bodies

THE SUN

  • The sun consists of two gases:
  • Hydrogen
  • Helium

PLANETS

  • They are spherical bodies which revolve around the Sun
  • The inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars
  • They are made up of rock
  • The outer planets are J, S, U, N
  • They are made up of gases.

DWARF PLANETS

  • They are spherical bodies which orbit the Sun.
  • They are smaller than planets:
  • Pluto

THE ASTEROIDS

  • They are rocky objects which are irregular in shape.
  • They orbit around the Sun

THE COMETS

  • Their orbit is elliptic.
  • Their shape is irregular.
  • Their nucleous is made up of ice, dust and gas.
