WHAT WAS THE SPANISH ARMADA?

  • Was made up of 130 ships
  • The fleet left from Lisbon in 1588
  • The fleet was going to escort the spanish army to England

WHY OVERTHROW ENGLAND?

  • Spain and all territories were catholic
  • Spanish Netherlands roots were Protestant
  • England was helping the Dutch Protestants

  • First spoted passing isles of Sicily
  • August 6, anchored at Calais
  • English first attacked at Calais
  • England tried to cause panic

ENGLAND KEPT PUSHING

  • England sent more ships and followed them
  • England eventually won against the Spanish
  • England blocked the English channel
  • Storm in Scotland destroyed a lot of ships
  • Half of the ships got destroyed
