• 1690 - Spanish Mission spread to Texas
• 1718 - Most successful settlement founded, San Antonio
• 1810 - Mexican War of Independance Began
• 1821 - Texas became part of Independent Mexico

Spanish Mission

• The Spanish Mission was to spread Christianity to the Native Americans
• The first Mission was established in the 1680's near San Angelo, El Paso, and Presido
• 1690 missions spread to east Texas at news of French settlements in the area
• Spanish Settlers called Caddo Indians "Teja's" meaning friend

San Antonio

• San Antonio used to be the capital of Texas
• San Antonio was a combination of civilian, military, and mission communities

Mexican War of Indepenence

• 1810- Mexican War for Independence weakened Spanish control in Texas
• Texas gains attention of Americans, especially those who thought Texas was a part of the Louisiana purchase
• Mexico lost nearly half of it's whole territory and America took the southwest part of their territory, California through Texas
